Battery-electric share of registrations

What it measures

The share of newly registered vehicles that run on a battery alone, for the same geography, segment, period and source.

Inputs

  • Eurostat's new vehicle registrations by powertrain (the engine or motor type), for Germany and the EU27, annual
  • New vehicle registrations by powertrain from the Kraftfahrt-Bundesamt (KBA, Germany's federal motor transport authority), for Germany, monthly

Method and weighting

Battery-electric share of registrations is the count of newly registered battery-electric vehicles divided by the count of every powertrain together, for the same geography, vehicle segment, period and source.

The share is worked out from the counts already published on the view, so it always agrees with the counts behind it; it takes its source and its frequency from those same counts.

A count below zero, or a powertrain's count above the all-powertrains count it is divided by, is rejected, and no share is published.

The vehicles store as verified on the date stated on the view; each series carries its own period and source. Data last refreshed on .

Known limits

  • Eurostat's and the KBA's counts come from two sources at two frequencies, so each is kept as its own series.
