Monthly mean prices and the divergence

What it measures

The mean day-ahead price per local calendar month for each bidding zone, and how far DE-LU's monthly mean diverges from France's.

Inputs

  • The day-ahead price on the canonical hourly grid, for the DE-LU bidding zone (Germany and Luxembourg, which share one wholesale price) and the neighbouring bidding zones linked to it by the shared day-ahead market

Method and weighting

Monthly means take the day-ahead price for each bidding zone on the canonical hourly grid and average it within each local calendar month, giving one figure per zone per month.

DE-LU is set against its neighbouring zones month by month, so the same calendar month can be compared across zones on one chart.

The DE-LU–France divergence is the difference between the two zones' monthly means for the same month: DE-LU's mean price minus France's.

Window

The rolling 12 months to the last complete day, refreshed on the 1st and 15th of each month. The current window runs from to . Data last refreshed on .

Known limits

  • A monthly mean hides the hours inside the month when the two zones split apart and traded at different prices.
