Mismatch

Residual load — the demand left for conventional plants and batteries after wind and solar. It dips midday when solar is abundant and peaks in the evening, when solar fades but people are still home.

Residual load is demand minus wind and solar — the power that conventional plants and batteries must still cover. Averaged by hour over the 12 months to 14 August 2026, Germany's residual load peaked around 40 GW near 19:00 and fell to about 16 GW at its midday low.
