Commercial Battery Storage: where Germany's mid-size batteries sit
Where are the commercial-size batteries, and how much power do they add up to, district by district?
On 26 September 2026 Germany's register of power plants (the Marktstammdatenregister) held 23 965 operating batteries in the commercial size class this site applies, from 30 kWh to 1 MWh of usable capacity: together 768 MW of power and 1 699 MWh of usable energy.
The district (Landkreis) with the most is Borken, with 13 947 kW across 360 units.
The register withholds coordinates for units at or below 30 kW, which covers 78% of this class, so the map stops at the district.
In 2025, the last full year, 5 799 units went live, adding 185 MW; commissioning from August 2026 is still being registered and reads low for now.
Commercial is a size class the site applies by usable capacity, with its bounds stated on the page; the register records no such label. The map stops at the district because the register withholds coordinates for small units, and the newest months are understated while late registrations arrive.
