Demand on the Grid
What EVs actually draw today, against the published scenarios for 2030 — an estimate against projections, and labelled as both.
No official German statistic isolates EV charging — the best estimate for 2024-2025 is 4–5 TWh a year, roughly 1% of Germany's ~463 TWh demand.
The fleet behind it: 2 034 260 battery-electric cars on 1 January 2026 (KBA), with BEVs taking 28.4% of new registrations in June 2026.
Published scenarios for 2030 put EV demand at 20.8–43 TWh, depending on how fast the fleet grows — several times today's estimate, and still a modest slice of total demand.
Realized demand is an estimate — no official statistic isolates EV charging. The figures for 2030 are scenario projections, not a forecast.
